27 फरवरी 2002 को साबरमती एक्सप्रेस के 7:30 बजे गोधरा स्टेशन पहुंचने तक माहौल में कोई अपशकुनी छाया नहीं थी। वापस जाती सर्दियों का हल्का अहसास अब भी था, और देश भर के लोगों के लिए एक आम दिन की शुरुआत हो रही थी। कोई स्कूल जाने, कोई काम की तरफ रवाना होने और कोई सोकर उठने की तैयारी में था, जब एक ख़बर बनने की शुरुआत हो चुकी थी। गोधरा स्टेशन के ठीक बाहर रुकी साबरमती एक्सप्रेस आग का गोला बन चुकी थी। 59 लोग जलाकर मार दिए गए- उनमें कुछ कारसेवक थे जो अयोध्या से लौट रहे थे और कुछ साधारण यात्री जो सुल्तानपुर, इलाहाबाद, लखनऊ या फिर कहीं से भी आ रहे थे।
इस भयावह हादसे ने पूरे देश को दहला दिया। लेकिन उस वक्त किसी को इस बात का अहसास तक नहीं था कि गोधरा की घटना देश के हालिया इतिहास के सबसे बड़े अलगाव और विनाश की वजह बन जाएगी। 24 घंटों के ख़बरिया चैनल पूरी घटना को बार-बार देश के सामने पेश कर रहे थे जिसे देखकर लोगों के अंदर एक स्वाभाविक गुस्सा फैल गया- सवाल उठने लगे। आग की शुरुआत कैसे हुई? किन लोगों ने इसे अंजाम दिया? क्या ये दुर्घटना थी या फिर आग जानबूझ कर लगाई गई? क्या ये पूर्व नियोजित साजिश थी या फिर स्वत:स्फूर्त प्रतिक्रिया?गोधरा की दिल दहलाने वाली मौतें सच और न्याय की गुहार लगा रहीं थीं। सांप्रदायिक नज़रिए से पहले ही काफी संवेदनशील गुजरात अब खतरनाक गुस्से में उबल रहा था। लोग सिर्फ न्याय चाहते थे--निष्पक्ष और पूरा-- और सरकार से हरे जख्मों पर मरहम।

कुछ ही घंटों में ये घोर निंदनीय घटना सांप्रदायिक उन्माद में बदलने लगी। जली हुई लाशों को पूरे राज्य में घुमाया गया। मारे गए 59 कारसेवकों को उनकी व्यक्तिगत पहचान और सम्मान देने की बजाय एक सम्मिलित पहचान दे दी गई--हिंदू कासेवकों की मुसलमानों ने हत्या कर दी। इससे पहले कि पुलिस एफआईआर दर्ज करती, शुरुआती तथ्य साबित होते और पोस्टमार्टम की कार्रवाई पूरी होती, राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री ने एक प्रेस रिलीज़ में युद्ध का एलान कर दिया- “जो घृणित काम गोधरा में हुआ है वो किसी भी सभ्य समाज का हिस्सा नहीं हो सकता। ये कोई साधारण सांप्रदायिक घटना नहीं है बल्कि एक समुदाय द्वारा सामूहिक रूप से अंजाम दिया गया आतंकी कारनामा है।”
आग की चिंगारी उसी रात भड़क गई थी। अगले तीन दिनों के दौरान 2000 से ज्यादा मुसलमानों को मार डाला गया। बलात्कार, आगजनी, गोली मारने से लेकर काट डालने जैसे घृणित अपराध हुए। हज़ारों मुसलमानों के घर आग के हवाले कर दिए गए, दर्जनों मस्जिदें ज़मींदोज़ कर दी गई। घृणा पैदा करने की कला ने अपना असर दिखाया। मोदी ने कहा " उनके साथ ये तो होना ही था।"पांच सालों के दौरान मोदी और उनकी राजनीतिक विचारधारा ने लगातार चिल्ला-चिल्ला कर इसे साबित करने की कोशिश की है कि गुजरात का नरसंहार एक नियोजित षडयंत्र के खिलाफ लोगों की स्वाभाविक प्रतिक्रिया थी। पांच सालों के दौरान मोदी और उनकी सरकार ने लगातार ये साबित करने की कोशिश की है कि गोधरा की घटना उग्र भीड़ द्वारा एकाएक गुस्से में की गई कार्यवाही नहीं थी बल्कि ये कुछ नामी धार्मिक और राजनीतिक मुस्लिम नेताओं द्वारा सुनियोजित तरीके से अंजाम दी गई घटना थी।
पांच सालों तक मोदी और उनका प्रशासनिक अमला नरसंहार के लिए मुख्य रूप से आठ लोगों को जिम्मेदार साबित करने में लगा रहा- गोधरा म्युनिसिपल काउंसिल के अध्यक्ष मोहम्मद हुसैन कलोता शेख, चार मुस्लिम कार्पोरेटर- बिलाल हाजी, फारुख मोहम्मद भाना, सलीम शेख और अब्दुल रहमान धंतिया, इसके अलावा दो मुस्लिम वकील, रोल अमीन हुसैन हथीला और हबीब करीम शेख और स्थानीय धार्मिक प्रमुख उमरजी।
पांच सालों से जनता, अदालत और प्रेस को ये बताया जाता रहा कि वो हत्यारे हैं। मोदी की क्रिया-प्रतिक्रिया सिद्धांत का यही आधार है। इन आठ सियासी और धार्मिक लोगों के अलावा गोधरा के 134 आरोपियों की लिस्ट में ज्यादातर हॉकर, मजदूर और ट्रक ड्राइवर हैं। इन सियासी और धार्मिक लोगों के नाम हटाएं और आरोपियों की सूची पर निगाह डालें तो एक स्वत:स्फूर्त अपराध भर बाकी रह जाता है। सियासी और धार्मिक हिस्सा हटा दें तो मोदी का क्रिया प्रतिक्रिया फार्मूला धराशायी हो जाता है।तो क्या ये आठों व्यक्ति वाकई गोधरा अग्निकांड के लिए जिम्मेदार थे?

कुछ राजनीतिक समूहों और सामाजिक संगठनों का आरोप है कि गोधरा आगजनी के पीछे खुद मोदी खड़े थे। उनका कहना है कि मोदी ने एस-6 कोच इसलिए जलवाया ताकि वो नरसंहार की रूप-रेखा तैयार कर सकें और अपना सियासी रुतबा बढ़ा सकें। क्या ये सही है ?
तहलका ने गोधरा में हुई घटना का सच बाहर लाने के लिए छह महीने लंबी खोजी मुहिम चलाई। छह महीने की कठिन खोज ने सच के इर्द-गिर्द बुने गए झूठ के जटिल ताने-बाने को हटाया और पाया कि किस तरह से तथ्यों के साथ कल्पना का घालमेल किया गया। लंबी पड़ताल के बाद मिले प्रमाणों ने हमें आश्चर्य में डाल दिया, इसलिए नहीं कि सच खोजना मुश्किल था बल्कि इसलिए कि ये यहां-वहां चारों तरफ बिखरा पड़ा था, मामले के कागजातों में, लोगों के बयानों में, सड़कों पर हर जगह। हमारी खोज ने हमें इसलिए आश्चर्य में नहीं डाला कि ये झटका देने वाले थे बल्कि जिस घृणित तरीके से सबूतों को नष्ट करने की कोशिश की गई थी वो चकित करने वाली थी। मोदी और उनकी सरकार जो दावे कर रही थी वो सब झूठ निकले। छोटे-मोटे झूठ नहीं बल्कि सोच समझ कर बनाए गए झूठ।
ये कहानी है जो हमने देखी, अब आप भी देखिए हमेशा की तरह सच विस्तार से।
आगमन-साबरमती एक्सप्रेस गोधरा स्टेशन पर पहुंची
7:43 बजे सुबह, 27 फरवरी, 2002, साबरमती एक्सप्रेस, ट्रेन नंबर-9166 अप अयोध्या से लौट रहे कारसेवकों से भरी ट्रेन गोधरा स्टेशन के प्लेटफार्म नंबर एक पर पहुंचती है। ट्रेन करीब पांच घंटे लेट पहुंची है।
पहला उकसावा- कारसेवकों का प्लेटफॉर्म पर मुस्लिम चायवाले से झगड़ा
गोधरा मामले में सबसे अहम सवाल ये है कि भीड़ किस बात से उत्तेजित हुई। मोदी सरकार का दावा है कि ये पूर्व नियोजित साजिश थी। एस-6 कोच में यात्रा कर रहे और किस्मत से बच गए दो यात्रियों के बयान इस दावे की धज्जियां उड़ा देते हैं। दोनों व्यक्ति न तो कारसेवक थे न ही वीएचपी या बजरंग दल के सदस्य। वे अपने गांव से अहमदाबाद जा रहे थे। दोनों ने बताया कि प्लेटफार्म पर कारसेवकों और चायवाले में झगड़ा हुआ था। ये हैं उनके प्रमाण- गांधीग्राम के निवासी और गैस अथॉरिटी ऑफ इंडिया लिमिटेड में उप प्रबंधक (सिविल) लालताकुमार बालकृष्णन जाधव उस दिन मध्य प्रदेश के गुना से अहमदाबाद जा रहे थे। जाधव के पास एस-7 में 32 नंबर की कोच का टिकट था पर कारसेवको ने उन्हें इस कोच में घुसने ही नहीं दिया। अपने बयान में जाधव ने कहा- “एस-6 के दरवाजे पर खड़े एक सेना के जवान से मैंने गुजारिश की तो उसने मुझे थोड़ी सी जगह दे दी, इस तरह से 26 फरवरी 2002 को शाम सवा आठ बजे मेरी यात्रा शुरू हुई। 27 फरवरी 2002 को ट्रेन गोधरा स्टेशन के प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर एक पर पहुंची। मैं ट्रेन से नहीं उतरा।”
अहमदाबाद में तैनात सेना के जवान गोविंदसिंह रत्नासिंह पांडे उस दिन लखनऊ से अहमदाबाद जा रहे थे। उनका कहना है, “कोच नंबर एस-6 में मेरे पास 9 नंबर की बर्थ थी। मेरी सीट पर पांच से छह महिलाएं बैठी हुई थीं। मैंने उन्हें अपना टिकट दिखाकर बर्थ खाली करने को कहा। एक 50-52 साल के बजरंग दल के कार्यकर्ता ने मुझसे कहा महिलाएं उपर की बर्थ पर नहीं चढ़ पाएंगी आप बर्थ नंबर तीन ले लीजिए। अपना सामान 9 नंबर बर्थ के नीचे रख कर मैं तीन नंबर सीट पर बैठ गया। कोच में करीब 250 लोग थे। ज्यादातर यात्री बिना टिकट यात्रा कर रहे थे जो कि बजरंग दल के कार्यकर्ता थे। हर स्टेशन पर जहां ट्रेन रुकती बजरंग दल के सदस्य प्लेटफार्म पर उतर कर जय श्री राम के नारे लगाना शुरू कर देते थे। 27 फरवरी 2002 को साढ़े सात से सात बजकर पैंतालिस मिनट के बीच ट्रेन गोधरा के प्लेटफार्म नंबर एक पर पहुंची। यहां भी 10 से 15 कारसेवक ट्रेन से उतरकर जय श्री राम के नारे लगाने लगे। मुझे लगता है कि उसी समय दूसरे कोचों से भी बजरंग दल के कार्यकर्ता प्लेटफार्म पर उतर कर नारेबाजी करने लगे। प्लेटफार्म पर काफी हल्ला हो रहा था। 3-4 मिनट के बाद बजरंग दल के कुछ लोग भागते हुए कोच में घुसे और दरवाजा बंद करके बोले कि प्लेटफार्म पर झगड़ा हो गया है और लोग पत्थर फेंक रहे हैं। उन्होंने सबसे दरवाजे और खिड़कियां बंद करने को कहा।”

To them our reply is that no people on the earth are so homogenous as to present perfect uniformity in language, culture, race & religion. A people is marked out a nation by themselves not so much by the absence of any heterogeneous differences amongst themselves as by the fact of their differing from other peoples more markedly than they differ amongst themselves. Take Great Britain as an example. There are at any rate three different languages there, They have fought amongst themselves dreadfully in the past, there are to be found the traces of different seeds & bloods and races. If you say that inspite of it all they are a nation because they possess a common country, a common languages, a common culture and common Holyland then the Hindus too possess a common country so well marked out as Hindusthan, a common language the Sanskrit. By 'Anuloma' and 'Pratiloma' marriages their seed and blood continued to get commingled even since the days of Manu. Their social festivals and cultural forms are not less common than those we find in England. They possess a common Holyland. The Vedic Rishis are their common pride. Their heroes Shriram and Shrikrishna, Shivaji and Pratap, Guru Govind and Banda are a source of common inspiration. Their prophets Buddha & Mahaveer, are held in common esteem. Remember ! Their ancient and modern history is common. They have friends and enemies in common. They have faced common dangers and won victories in common. One in national glory and one in national disasters, one in national hope and one in national despairs and Hindus are welded together during aeons of a common life and a common habitat. If the United States with the Warring Crowds of Negroes, Germans and Anglo-saxons with a common past not exceeding four or five centuries put together can be called a nation - then the Hindus must be entitled to be recognised as a nation par excellence. Verily the Hindus as a people differ most markedly from any other people in the world than they differ amongst themselves. The oneness of the Hindus was proved in a negative way at the time of partition of India on theocratic basis. One who received a muslim dagger was invariably a Hindu. The Muslims while attacking Kafirs made no distinction between a touchable and nontouchable,a Brahmin and a nonbrahmin,a Kshtriya or a Vaishya.When Hindus came together in the graveyard after death,they are certainly a nation while alive. And whatsoever differences divide the Hindus amongst themselves are rapidly disappearing owing to their awakening of national consciousness and the Sanghatan & Social reforms. "To you be your religion, and to me my religion (Islâmic Monotheism)." There is no compulsion in Islam you want to accept it okay otherwise for you your religion for me mine. Allah says in Holy Quran, Chapter No 5, Verse No 32 If anyone killed a person (christ or hindu or any innocent people) not in retaliation of murder or if anyone spread mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. This is the teaching of ISLAM.
